These are very common birds where I come from in London, and they always seem to capture my attention. Magpies are a beautiful bird, graceful and with a gorgeous iridescent quality to their feathers - I'm certain any ornithologist or bird-lover would agree. Here they are captured in flight, a mirror image of one another, providing a real sense of movement to the drawing.
 
The inspiration for this piece is the poem that goes like this:
 
One for Sorrow,
Two for Joy
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy.
 
I grew up with this motto, and many people are superstitious when they see one of these birds on it's own, so here I have featured two!
 
This is available as a Giclee print - Black ink on Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308gsm fine quality paper. There is a slight texture to the paper and a matt finish.
