This is a very modern print but has a timeless feel as it is monochrome. The print brings together lots of shapes and things I love - the sea, circles, whales and geometry. The waves at the back, and the froth of the sea bring this piece to life, and add a rhythm and liveliness to the image. I can almost hear the waves crash, and the tail smash into the sea.
 
This design was hand-drawn by me using blank ink and is produced on 350gsm silk paper with a matt finish.
 
This print measures approximately 30x20cm.
 
INSPIRATION
 
I have always loved nature, and when I was in primary school I completed a project around Humpback Whales. Even back then, I recall enjoying rendering their bumpy curvy bodies, and the poem at the back of the project book:
 
If you ever, ever, ever, ever, ever
If you ever, ever, ever see a whale
 
You must never, never, never, never, never
You must never, ever tread upon it's tail
 
If you ever, ever, ever, ever, ever
If you ever, ever tread upon it's tail
 
You will never, never, never, never, never
You will never live to see another whale.
 
I still have this piece of work and it always makes me smile. I have never lost the love for these beautiful creatures, and took great pleasure in bringing this one to life.
